This sentence is quite similar to another proverb... something to do with the water and its source.. who knows?

For this sentence, it means.. that no matter how skillful we are, how expert we are, we must never forget it is our master.. it is our master who gives us the opportunity.. the time and effort to train us.. to nuture us to what we are...

饮水思源
the direct translation would be, when you are drinking a cup of water, don't forget where you get the source.

saying that when you're learning something and becomes more knowledgable in that area, never forget who is the one who helped you along the way.

am i right?
